Welcome To My Dymo 4XL Review.

Features Of The DYMO 4XL
Highly Customizable
The 4XL is not only good at printing 4×6 labels for use with UPS, FedEx, and USPS.
It also allows you to choose from over sixty professional label templates, such as address labels, name badge labels, and even labels for retail stores such as price tags, and barcode labels.
You can customize your texts and graphics that you use on the labels using Dymo’s free label printing software.
Links to download the free Dymo Software they are below.
Compatibility Of The DYMO 4XL
A feature that most users find amazing in this printer is its compatibility with Dymo stamps and as mentioned before the several different types of labels you’re able to print.
You can easily print on extra-large 4 x 6-inch labels and other small labels such as the 2-5/16 x 4 shipping labels and the one-inch barcode labels.
The printer also allows users to print labels from all popular shipping platforms. You can, therefore, print shipping labels directly from eBay, Amazon, and Etsy just to name a few. This is great if you’re an online seller.
The 4XL is also compatible with many operating systems such as Windows 7 and later, Mac OS X version 10.10 and later.
Fast Printing
The speed of the 4XL is lighting Fast. (Well not literally). But you can print up to 53 standard 4 line address labels or 129 high capacity 4 line address labels in about a minute. That’s pretty fast for printing labels.
You can easily print labels directly from popular programs, shipping, and selling platforms.
Prints A Wide Variety Of Labels.
As I mentioned before the Dymo XL allows you to print labels of up to 4 inches wide, including 4 x 6 inches shipping labels, warehouse labels, and bulk mailing labels. You can also print other relatively larger format labels, which is pretty amazing.
The 4XL Warranty
The 4XL comes with a 2-year warranty for the date of purchase.
This 2-year warranty covers normal things like “defects in materials, design, or workmanship”.
One thing to note is when it comes to the labels you use in your Dymo XL. The warranty does not cover any malfunction or damage caused by third-party labels.

How To Set Up Your DYMO 4XL LabelWriter
With all this talk about the 4XL, I guess it would be helpful if you had an idea of how to set this printer up.
The first step is to install the DYMO software.
Ensure that you do not connect your printer until the software installation is done.

After installing the software, you can connect your DYMO 4XL printer.
Start by first connecting the power adapter to the power cord and plugging in where it says DC power connector.
Next, you should plug the USB cord into the port labeled “USB connector” on the back of the printer, then connect the other end of the USB cord to a USB port on your computer.
Before you can load your labels you will need to remove the label that the printer has loaded from the factory. It’s used to protect the printer during shipping. To remove this label press the “form-feed” button twice, it will cause the label to come out.

You should place a new label roll on the spindle before putting the label spool into the slot found in the printer cover. In case you have problems doing this, you can take a look at the video below or the Dymo user-guide. You are ready to go once you have done all these.
To print your labels, double click the icon on your computer and open the Dymo Label Software.

You will then select the label type and layout. You can add customized text in the edit area before clicking print.
Keep in mind that this printer all comes with a standard print driver apart from the labeling program, which allows you to print from any application.
You can also create a label from an address of a letter if you use the Office XP add-ins through 2010 versions of both Word and Excel.
However, to be able to print stamps, you have to sign up for an Endicia account.
As of the writing of this article an Endicia account has a 4-week trial, after that there is a monthly or yearly fee, depending on how you choose to continue after your trial ends.

Endicia Product | Windows Pricing | Mac Pricing |
---|---|---|
Endicia Standard | $9.95/mo $99.95/yr | |
Endicia Premium | $15.95/mo $174.95/yr | |
Endicia Professional | $34.95/mo | |
Endicia For Mac | $15.95/mo |

Performance Of The Dymo 4XL
Performance is an essential consideration before getting any label printer. This printer is pretty good when it comes to performance.
Dymo 4XL printer uses direct thermal printing instead of the usual ink, making it cost-effective, and fast at printing your labels.
Individual mailing labels take around 3.1 seconds, which means that a 50-label print job requires a little over 2 minutes to complete.
A 4.16-by-6.275-inch shipping label takes approximately 3.8 seconds each, which is also pretty fast.
Therefore, the printer is ideal for a moderate number of printing labels or those measuring 4x 6 inches or less.
Pros
- This printer comes with an excellent free label-printing program that serves well for moderate label printing jobs.
- It can print many shipping labels, including USPS, UPS, FedEx, and many others.
- This printer is durable and, therefore, you can stay rest assured that it will serve you for long. It has a robust construction with well-crafted details.
- It works pretty quickly, saving you much time and effort.
- It has a quiet operation, which is a big issue when it comes to printers. You, therefore, get to avoid all the noise as you work on your labels.
Cons
These are some of the things that users complain about:
- Complicated controls- Unfortunately, this printer does not have easy controls like other options. Beginners will, therefore, have a hard time using it. Others also complain that the unit jams easily, which doesn’t sound like a good thing.
- Poor integration- The Word add-in does not smoothly integrate with Word, a concern that has been raised in other Dymo models but has yet to be corrected by the company.
- To Print Stamps you have to have to signup for an Endicia account.
Conclusion
The DYMO 4XL label printer is a good choice if you’re looking for a quiet, fast printer for moderate printing jobs.
It is efficient and cost-effective thanks to the thermal printing technology that it uses. While there is a slight learning curve when you first get this print, once you get the hang of it, you’ll be printing like a pro!
